Leo Stores and Supply is proud to announce its sponsorship of the Ga. Nilandhoo Futsal Team for the upcoming Golden Futsal Challenge 2025. This initiative highlights Leo’s commitment to youth development and support for sporting events organized by young individuals from island communities, empowering them through athletics and teamwork.

The Golden Futsal Challenge is the largest futsal tournament in the Maldives, first launched in 2015. Since 2017, the Ga. Nilandhoo team has been an enthusiastic participant in this prestigious event, where futsal teams from across the country’s inhabited islands compete. All teams assemble in the capital city of Greater Male’ to showcase their skills, with each player representing their respective island. These tournaments not only foster a sense of community but also enhance the social spirit among participants and supporters.

This year’s competition will see nearly 120 islands participating, a record number, demonstrating the event’s popularity. The tournament has two stages: the atoll stage and subsequent zone competitions, culminating in the selection of the champions. The atoll stage winner will advance to the quarter-finals, creating an exciting pathway to victory.

The Ga. Nilandhoo Futsal Team stands out for its youthful composition, with an average age of just 20. Many of these talented players balance their sporting commitments with part-time studies and jobs. Their team selection was conducted through a rigorous process that included training camps and evaluations led by a senior futsal coach.

Today, the senior management of Leo Tradings ceremoniously presented the team with their new jerseys, signaling the start of the eagerly awaited competition tomorrow. Participating in the Golden Futsal Challenge presents a prestigious opportunity for these young players, as they may catch the attention of talent-hunting scouts for the national futsal team.

Team Manager Mr. Nazil expressed his optimism for the tournament, stating, “I believe in the talent and determination of our young players who are eager for success. As someone who has played on this team and experienced success in the past, I am excited to lead this youthful squad into such a competitive atmosphere. Receiving sponsorship from one of the largest private sector firms in the country is a significant recognition for us.”
